Estate Planning – having those difficult conversations
Crystal Lockard (Representative of Associated Counsellors &
Psychologists Sydney)

Crystal shared insights on the emotional aspects of Estate Planning and the importance of having the difficult conversations early, rather than waiting until a crisis situation. She shared some case studies around some common issues such as how to talk to your family, and the emotions around selecting who makes the decisions when you are not able to.Crystal also examined the types of emotions that are typical around this sensitive topic, and how they can manifest in the decision making process.

Estate Planning - the legalities
Rob Pearson (Lawyer - Creagh & Creagh)

Rob covered some of the legal issues that can arise as result of not having affairs in order. Rob also shared some case studies where disputes have occurred when they could have been avoided  such as an adult child with a substantial shareholding in a valuable family company dying without a will, disputes within families when a charity receives a substantial bequest at the expense of family members,issues within blended families both young and old (it is not always like the Brady Bunch), and numerous Family Provision Act claims.
